Oven Baked Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings

Oven Baked Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings are perfect for game day with just the right amount of heat and a touch of sweetness. And the best part is they are baked in the oven, so you never miss a play of the game.

With football season kicking off this weekend, I thought now was the perfect time to share my sweet and spicy chicken wing recipe.

Although I am not a big football watcher, my son is. He played the sport while in school and enjoys watching college football on the weekends. I might also add he loves chicken wings. He eats them at least twice a week and would love to eat them more. So I created this recipe with him in mind.

Of course, along with football comes the need to have some snacks. This is where baked honey sriracha chicken wings come into play. You can have a plate full of delicious chicken wings by the second quarter with just a few simple ingredients, and these wings score a touchdown every time.

Being from the south, I love fried chicken. But honestly, you will never miss the “not” fried method of these wings. They are perfectly seasoned before they are baked and then slathered with homemade honey and sriracha sauce. These chicken wings are seriously good.

You might want to start a second batch while your guests devour the first ones if you are feeding a crowd. They always seem to go fast!

How to Cook Chicken Wings

Now there are several methods of cooking wings. I enjoy fried chicken wings, but baking yields a lot less fat and is not as messy. It takes about 30 minutes in a 400-degree oven, and you only need to turn them once.
While the wings are cooking, mix the Honey Sriracha Sauce and set it aside.
After the wings have cooked, remove them from the oven and baste the top with the sauce. Set oven to broil and place the wings in the middle of the oven and watch carefully for about 3-4 minutes. Turn wings over, baste again, and broil the other side. Watch carefully so as not to burn the wings. Don’t walk away to watch the game; keep an eye on the wings. Let the wings sit for about 5 minutes before taking a bite. This will allow the sauce to set on the wings.

What is Sriracha?

Sriracha is a hot sauce made with peppers, garlic, vinegar, salt, and sugar. It has turned into my all-time favorite hot sauce, and I use it in many dishes. It is usually found right next to the other hot sauce brands. It’s a little sweet with a big kick of spiciness. The flavor is truly addictive. If you like hot sauce, I bet you will like this sriracha sauce.

What is Chili Garlic Sauce?

Chili Garlic Sauce is a coarse blend of peppers, garlic, salt, and vinegar. It is spicy like Sriracha but not as smooth. I like the chunks of goodness, so I like to add this ingredient to my sauces. Suppose you don’t have any of this sauce on hand; no worries. You can easily add some minced garlic (in the jar) to this sauce. This will not only give it a few course chunks but also give it added flavor. I usually find the Chili Garlic Sauce in the International section at the grocery store.

How to make Honey Sriracha Wing Sauce

This sauce comes together super fast. * Tip–Have all of your ingredients ready before you begin. In a small saucepan, melt butter. Whisk in corn starch and cook for about 30 seconds. Immediately add other ingredients and bring sauce to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes. Stir until it thickens. Remove from heat until wings are cooked and ready for the sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1/4 cup sriracha hot sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoons Chili Garlic Sauce
  • 1 lime, juiced

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. If using foil, spray with non stick spray.
  • In a large bowl, combine wings, oil, butter, garlic powder, and pepper. Toss well to coat completely. Place wings on the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes—flip wings halfway through cooking.
  • While the wings are cooking, work on the sauce. In a small saucepan, melt butter. Whisk in corn starch and cook for about 30 seconds. Add other ingredients and bring sauce to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Stir until it thickens. Turn off heat and set aside.
  • After the wings have cooked for 30 minutes, remove the baking sheet from the oven and turn the oven to broil. Carefully drain any juice in the pan. Discard juice. Brush the sauce on the top of the wings covering well, and return the wings to the oven (placing the wings on the middle rack). Broil for 3-4 minutes. Turn wings over, baste again, and broil the other side. Watch carefully so as not to burn the wings.
  • Remove the pan from the oven. Allow the wings to sit for about 5 minutes before taking a bite. This will allow the sauce to set on the wings.
