Jalapeno Peppers – The star of the show! Look for whole jalapenos that are fresh, firm, and smooth-skinned peppers. Look for medium to large peppers, for they are easier to stuff.
Cream Cheese – Rich cream cheese is mixed with the ingredients and stuffed into each jalapeno half. Opt for full-fat cream cheese.
Cheddar Cheese – Sharp cheddar cheese makes this jalapeno recipe extra cheesy. Experiment with different cheese blends.
Worcestershire Sauce – This savory condiment adds depth of flavor with its unique blend of spices.
Bacon or  Bacon Bits – Each slice of bacon is fried till crunchy and then crumbled for the filling. Bacon bits will also work for this recipe. Opt for real bacon pieces, not the imitation.

How To Buy Jalapeno Peppers

When buying jalapenos, look for smooth peppers that are medium to large and free of blemishes or soft spots. This is the perfect recipe for using peppers from your garden. During the summer months, visit your local farmers’ market, roadside stands, or grocery store for the freshest peppers. Jalapenos should be firm to the touch. I usually buy a few extras in case some are not suitable for use.

How To Cut Jalapenos For Poppers

It is important to wear gloves when slicing jalapeno peppers. Jalapenos can irritate and burn the skin, and caution should be exercised when preparing the jalapenos. Do not rub your eyes, mouth, or face while slicing the peppers or while wearing the gloves after touching the peppers.

  • Put on disposable gloves.
  • Rinse the jalapenos under cold water.
  • Slice the jalapenos lengthwise.
  • Remove the seeds and the inside membrane.
  • Stuff with the filling mixture.

Steps for making cheesy jalapenos with text overlay.
  1. Prepare the Jalapeno Peppers: Always wear protective disposable gloves when cutting jalapeño peppers. Using a sharp knife, carefully slice the jalapenos in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and membrane to reduce the heat. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and Worcestershire Sauce. Using a hand mixer or the back of a large spoon, blend the ingredients until smooth and well incorporated. Add the bacon and mix well.
  3. Stuff the Jalapenos: Using a small spoon, stuff each jalapeño half with the rich cream cheese mixture. Be generous with the filling mixture and distribute it evenly.
  4. Bake the Stuffed Jalapeños: Bake the stuffed jalapenos on a greased baking sheet or parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place the peppers in a single layer and bake until the tops are golden brown.
  5. Serve Warm: Once the peppers are done, remove them from the oven, allow to cool slightly, and serve warm.

How To Reduce The Heat In Stuffed Jalapeños

Reducing the heat in jalapenos can be achieved by removing the seeds and membranes from each pepper. Wearing gloves, cut each pepper in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and the inside membrane. By removing these, you can cut the spiciness while still enjoying the pepper flavor and not being overwhelmed with the heat. If you like a little heat, leave some of the seeds or the inside membrane.

Tips For Making Delicious Jalapeno Poppers

Here are some easy tips to ensure your Cheesy Jalapeno Peppers Recipe turns out perfectly.

  • I have done this before, but it is not necessary to do for great-tasting peppers- I boiled my hot peppers for a few minutes to make them soft before I baked them. You don’t have to do this step, and they will be completely fine, but boiling them seems to take away some of the heat, and they do cook a little faster.
  • When cutting hot peppers, it is best to wear gloves. I keep a box of disposable gloves on hand for just this reason.
  • Choose peppers the same size to ensure even baking times.
  • Use room-temperature cream cheese.
  • Line your baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

How To Store Leftovers

You can store leftover jalapeno poppers in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Allow them to cool to room temperature, then place them in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator.
