Ingredients
2½cupssugar
2½cupswaterplus more to fill the pitcher (about 10 cups)
1½cupslime juicefresh, about 10 limes
1limesliced, optional
Instructions
Make the simple syrup: Simmer 2 1/2 cups water and 2 1/2 cups sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
Juice limes: It usually takes about 10 limes to equal 1 1/2 cups of lime juice. Use a handheld juicer to make this step easier to extract the juice.
Make the Limeade: To a gallon pitcher, add simple syrup, lime juice, and cold water to fill the pitcher. Stir until mixed well. Serve over ice and fresh lime slices.
Store in the refrigerator.
Notes
Note: As the limeade chills, it loses some of its sweetness. Add more lime juice for more tart flavor.Reduce the amount of sugar if so desired.Serve over ice.
