Ingredients Needed for the Best Grilled Parmesan Corn on the Cob

Corn on the Cob – Corn on the cob is the star of the show and plentiful during the summer months. Fresh sweet corn is one of my favorite things to grill during the summer months. I just can’t seem to get enough.
Butter – Corn and butter just go together. The butter adds richness and excellent flavor. Use salted or unsalted butter, your choice.
Salt, Black Pepper and Garlic Powder – These are the seasonings I use when grilling corn. Use your favorite seasonings and what you like the best.
Grated Parmesan – Sprinkle generously over the top of the cooked corn for a burst of nutty flavor.
Shaved Parmesan (if desired) – This ingredient is optional but does add freshness and texture.

How To Grill Corn on the Cob

Step 1: Heat the grill to medium heat. I used a pellet grill. Heat to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Pull back each husk and remove all silks from each ear of corn.
Season each ear with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Place 1/4 Tablespoon of butter on top of the corn.
Step 3: Fold the husk back up into place, covering the butter.
Step 4: Place corn on the grill, butter side up. Grill for about 30-45 minutes, turning every 15 minutes.

If you are using another type of grill, cook over medium heat. You will need to flip the corn every 10 minutes to avoid burning the outside. You may also need to reduce the cooking time to 15-20 minutes. Again, you are the judge as to doneness and tenderness. All grills cook differently.

Step 5: Remove the corn from the grill when kernels are tender—Pierce the corn with the end of a knife to test for doneness and tenderness.
Remove husks and brush with more butter if desired and sprinkle with grated parm and shaved parm.

Does Corn Need to be Boiled Before Grilling?

This recipe does not require boiling the corn before grilling. It does take about 45 minutes on the grill. Some people prefer to boil the corn before grilling to shorten the time. Although I have never done this, and my corn always turns out perfect.

Grilling corn on the cob allows it to develop a smoky flavor. It is super easy, and skipping the boiling saves time when preparing this dish.

Can I Grill Corn with the Husk On?

Yes, I do! This process is very easy. Pull the husks back, leaving them attached at the bottom. Remove as many silks as you possibly can. Season the corn, add butter, and pull the husk back up over the butter and seasoned corn. Place the corn on the grill. I usually place the corn on the top rack. This also frees up the grill for more food.

Can I Grill the Corn with Husk Off?

Of course, you can. Remove the husk and silks from the corn. Brush with melted butter and season. Add to the grill and turn every 10 minutes. The cook time will vary. Usually, it takes about 15-20 minutes. Start checking after 15 minutes for the desired doneness. You are your own judge for doneness.

Another way to cook corn with the husk off is to wrap it in foil. Butter and season each ear, then wrap tightly in foil. The foil will trap the steam and yield a moist ear. Again, you are the judge for doneness and tenderness. I tend to leave my corn on longer than most people.

Grilled Corn on the Cob with Parmesan has amazing flavor, and you will be hooked after the first bite. It has butter and then topped with cheese… The best of both worlds. Try some today.

Leftover Corn

Store all leftover corn in an airtight container or wrapped in aluminum foil in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Leftovers are fantastic when reheated the next day. Also you might remove the corn from the cob and use the corn kernels in a casserole, salad, soup, or as a topping for tacos.

Recipe Tips and Variations

  • Experiment with different seasonings, such as chili powder and a sprinkle of cayenne for added flavor.
  • Get creative with extra toppings. Mix together more garlic butter for slathering over the top of warm corn, and add a sprinkle of fresh parsley.
  • Mix up the cheeses and experiment with different flavors and some of your favorites.
