What are Cabbage Steaks?

Cabbage Steaks are thick slices of cabbage drizzled with oil and seasoned. They are roasted in the oven until soft and tender with slightly crispy and charred edges.

Ingredients Needed for Roasted Cabbage Steaks

Cabbage: I like to use green cabbage for this recipe. Slice the cabbage into 3/4″ to 1″ slices- leaving the cabbage intact.

Oil:– I use vegetable oil. Drizzle it over the top and spread evenly to ensure each slice of the cabbage is covered with the oil.

Seasonings: Salt, Pepper, and Garlic Powder are all I use to flavor my cabbage. Feel free to pull whatever you have in your spice drawer and choose your favorite seasonings.

Butter: Add slices of butter to the top of the hot cabbage and allow the butter to melt between the layers.

How to Make Delicious Cabbage Steaks in the Oven

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

2. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper or sprayed foil.

3. Grab a head of green cabbage, rinse, and remove the core and some tough outer leaves.

4. Slice into 3/4″ to 1″ slices, leaving it intact.

5. Place cabbage on a baking sheet.

6. Drizzle with oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Brush to cover cabbage evenly.

7. Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes until cabbage is tender and the edges are a little crispy. Add butter to the top of the hot cabbage.

Recipe FAQs

No. You should wash the outside of the cabbage, remove the core, and any tough leaves before slicing.

Check several times throughout the cooking process. The cabbage is done when it is fork-tender, soft and the edges are a little crispy. Remove them from the oven a little earlier if you don’t like crispy edges.
