- Butter and Flour— These are used to make the roux. I used salted butter, but unsalted butter will be fine.
- Garlic (from a jar)– I like to use minced garlic from a jar.
- Milk– I used regular milk (whole milk).
- Heavy cream– You can use half and half or light cream if desired, but the heavy cream makes a nice thick sauce.
- Salt and Black Pepper— These are the only seasonings I used.
- Frozen Green Peas— I was making this dish for a larger family/crowd, so I used 8 cups of frozen peas. You can certainly cut this recipe in half.
- *Note: I have yet to try this recipe with skim milk or low fat milk, so I can not say how this will work. If you are using heavy cream, the outcome should be the same.

Would you cook frozen pearl onions before adding them with the peas? Can I make it ahead?
Add the onions and peas at the same time. They can cook together. You can make this ahead, but they will need to be warmed before serving. You may need to add some additional milk to thin out the cream a bit while warming.
