This pie has three layers (Triple Layer Pie). The first layer is the crust, the second is the pumpkin pie filling, and the third is the Cool Whip topping. An easy No bake pie recipe is perfect for your holiday table.

The caramel and pecans take an ordinary pie and turn it into an extraordinary turtle pumpkin pie. 

  1. Pour caramel and pecans into the bottom of the graham cracker crust.
  2. Add ingredients to the mixer.
  3. Fill the pie crust.
  4. Top with whipped topping.
  5. Refrigerate.

Tips and Variations for Pumpkin Cream Pie

  • Use a store-bought graham cracker crust. This cuts down on time, plus they are good. 
  • Use the canned pumpkin puree.
  • I used the caramel topping in the jar. It’s the same kind you put on top of ice cream. 
  • Thaw the whipped topping before adding it to the mix and the top of the pie. This makes it easier to mix and spread.
  • Allow time for the pie to chill before serving; if you can make this the day before, the better. 
  • The pie will be soft and creamy. 
  • Add additional caramel sauce and chopped pecans to the top of the pie if desired.
  • Use a store-bought buttery graham cracker crust to cut down on time.
  • This pie will be soft and creamy and not dense like the traditional pie. The delicious pumpkin pie layer is full of flavor.
  • Layer the pie- crust, creamy pumpkin pie filling, and Cool Whip topping.
  • Make a homemade graham cracker crust if you like. Use graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. You can find a crust recipe with my Strawberry Cheesecake Bars.
  • The bottom layer of the pie is full of caramel and pecans.
  • As a variation, instead of making a whole pie, make individual servings in cups. Crumble graham crackers in the bottom of the cups and continue with the recipe.

In my house- You can’t serve dressing unless you have Homemade Cranberry Sauce on the side.

How to Store this Easy Pumpkin Pie

Cover the leftover pie with the plastic lid that comes with the crust or wrapped tightly with plastic wrap. Store the pie in the fridge until ready to serve. Place any leftovers back into the refrigerator for up to 3 days. We never have leftovers past this point.

Can I Freeze Triple-Layer Pumpkin Pie?

Although you can make this dessert in advance and refrigerate it until ready to serve, I do not recommend freezing it. Freezing will have a negative effect on the pudding layer as well as the Cool Whip topping.

No. These are two different pies. Sweet potato pie is made with sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie is made with pumpkin puree. They are the same in color but have different tastes.

You can make a homemade graham cracker crust if desired. If you make a crust from scratch, you will need to bake it first. But, I have found that the store-bought crust for this recipe is just as good.

Adding caramel and pecans to this pumpkin pie recipe takes it to the next level and is sometimes called a turtle pie or turtle pumpkin pie.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Graham Cracker Crust premade
  • cup caramel topping
  • ½ cup pecans chopped
  • 1 (5.1 oz.) box instant vanilla pudding
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 (15 oz.) can pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 (8oz.) whipped topping
  • caramel sauce and pecans for topping optional

Instructions
 

  • Pour caramel topping onto the bottom of the pie crust and sprinkle with pecans. Slightly pressing pecans into the caramel.
  •  In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat together pudding mix, milk, canned pumpkin, cinnamon, and vanilla. Set aside.
  • Mix ½ of the Cool Whip into the pumpkin mixture and gently spoon over the caramel and pecans.
  • Top the pie with the remaining Cool Whip. If desired, drizzle with more caramel topping and pecans.
  • Refrigerate for an hour or overnight.
