Why Make This Recipe?

Valentine’s Day: There are too many ways to say, “I Love You,” and a big box of cookies says it loud and clear. Cookies are the way to someone’s heart. So this year, go the extra step and make homemade cookies for the people you love. Package them in a festive box or container, tie them with a ribbon, and attach a card. A homemade gift is always best when it comes from the heart.

I think about chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate during February and all year long. These cookies are no exception. They certainly check all of the boxes as rich, soft, chocolatey, delicious, and they are sealed with a kiss. Is there anything better than cookies and kisses on Valentine’s Day?

Bake Sale: Schools are always trying to raise money for a sporting event or something special going on during the year. Bake up a batch of these cookies to help raise money for the cause.

Cookie Swap: We like to participate in a cookie swap with family during the holiday season. This is a great way to have different cookies on hand for family and friends during the season.

Birthday Party: We all know what it’s like to make goodie bags for a child’s birthday party. Send your guest home with a bag of homemade cookies. This recipe makes a lot, so one batch might fill the bags.

This cookie recipe is straightforward. Even a beginner baker can make a batch with no problem. There are no fancy ingredients, and everything can be mixed by hand. These cookies have a crispy edge and a soft center. The key to the best outcome is to underbake the cookies slightly.

2. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla. Stir well to combine.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and baking soda, breaking up any lumps.

**Cool completely on the pan before moving to a cooling rack.

How to Store Cookies

Store all cookies in an air-tight container or zip-top bag. They will be fine on the counter at room temperature. Store them in the refrigerator or a cool place if the temperature is warm.

Expert Tips:

*Use melted and cooled butter.

*These cookies can be mixed by hand if so desired. No mixer is needed.

*Chill dough for a few minutes before baking.

*Use a cookie scoop for uniformly shaped cookies.

*I keep the dough in the fridge between baking the batches of cookies.

*Don’t be tempted to overcook your cookies. Underbake them slightly. They will finish cooking as they cool on the baking pan.

*Once the cookies come out of the oven, gently press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie.

*Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet (8-10 minutes) before moving to the cooling rack.

*Package the cookies in a decorative and festive box or container.

*Slide the cookies into the refrigerator to help the “kiss” set up faster.

*This recipe made 70 cookies using a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop.

Cookies with a Hershey Kiss

These cookies are already packed with chocolatey goodness, and now you will add more chocolate to the top. As soon as the cookies are removed from the oven, add a Hershey’s Kiss to the top. This allows the bottom of the “kiss” to melt slightly and adhere on top of the cookie.
