Ingredients Needed For Texas Caviar
This is the best cowboy caviar recipe I have repeatedly made all summer. It’s the perfect dish and always a crowd pleaser. It makes a big batch and is a great recipe for game day, cookouts, or snacks by the pool. For a complete list of ingredients, please see the printable recipe card below. All of the ingredients are easy to find in your grocery store, farmer’s market, or from your garden. I prefer to use fresh ingredients and fresh vegetables whenever I can in this easy recipe.
- Roma Tomatoes—Fresh tomatoes are needed for this salad, but I use cherry tomatoes fresh from the vine during the summer.
- Red Onion – Any onion will work for this recipe. I use red onion the most for added color.
- Black Beans – These are great for color, texture, and flavor. Rinse and drain the beans before adding them to the bowl.
- Black-Eyed Peas – I always have a can of black-eyed peas on hand for this easy cowboy caviar.
- Sweet Corn – I use a can of whole-kernel corn for this recipe. It’s convenient, but fresh corn or even frozen corn works nicely. Thaw frozen corn completely before adding to the bowl.
- Bell Pepper – Fresh veggies make this colorful cowboy caviar so tasty. I use whatever color I have in my produce drawer- red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, or green bell pepper.
- Cilantro – I love a dish that is full of fresh cilantro.
- Jalapeno—Jalapeno is optional but adds flavor. It’s not overpowering in this flavorful dip and adds just enough heat.
For the Dressing
These are simple ingredients needed for the dressing. If you need a shortcut for this cowboy salsa, a bottle of Italian Dressing will be quite tasty. It’s easy and is a great way to use what is in your pantry. It works well for a last-minute dressing. This hearty dip can be added as a side salad with your meal.
- Olive Oil – A neutral oil is needed for the base of this dressing.
- Lime Juice – If you don’t have fresh lime juice, use lime juice from a bottle.
- Red Wine Vinegar – Just an ingredient I keep in my refrigerator. Apple Cider vinegar will also work.
- Sugar – I use a small amount to balance the flavors.
- Salt, Black Pepper, Garlic Powder – These are the seasonings I use, but use your favorites.
- Tortilla chips – Choose crunchy tortilla chips or your favorite chips for dipping, and you can’t go wrong.
