Recipe Ingredients

All of the ingredients are easy to find in most grocery stores. For a complete list of amounts, see the printable recipe card below.

These ingredients work together to make a delicious, soft, and chewy cookie. This sugar cookie dough is big in taste and texture.

  • Butter – You will need room temperature butter before mixing. Butter is a key ingredient, providing a rich and creamy texture to the cookies.
  • Light Brown Sugar – Light brown sugar provides a caramel flavor and moisture to the cookies.
  • Granulated Sugar – White sugar sweetens the cookie.
  • Eggs – Eggs act as a binder and provide richness to the cookies. Room temperature eggs work best.
  • Vanilla Extract – Vanilla enhances the flavor of the cookies, giving them a pleasant taste.
  • Baking Soda – Baking soda is a leavening agent and helps the cookies to rise and spread.
  • Salt – Salt enhances and balances the sweetness of the sugar.
  • Cornstarch – Cornstarch helps to achieve soft centers and contributes to chewiness.
  • All Purpose Flour – Flour is a dry ingredient that provides structure and serves as a base for the dough.
  • Plain M&Ms – M&Ms are vibrant, candy-coated chocolate candy that brings a burst of color to the cookies.

How to Bake M&M Sugar Cookies

  1. Prepare the cookie dough. In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the ingredients in order as listed below. This is a straightforward recipe, and you’ll add dry ingredients and wet ingredients in the same mixer bowl.
  2. Roll into balls. I use a measuring cup to scoop my dough. If you have a large cookie scoop, use that. The cookie dough balls may seem enormous when you roll them out, but they spread out when they bake.
  3. Bake until slightly golden brown. I bake my cookies for 10 minutes, but ovens vary, so watch them closely- 10-12 minutes total time should do it. You be the judge if you need additional minutes.
